Preschool Intern (Early Childhood Education) Overview The Early Childhood Development Intern works with the Lead and Assistant Teachers to provide a warm and loving atmosphere for children ages 2.9 years to 5 years. Teachers and interns work together to support the academic and social development of children in our Preschool. Interns must be able to work in a team setting with patience, enthusiasm and respect for children. Intern Responsibilities Encourage children’s social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical development skills through positive interactions. Assist teachers in implementing a curriculum based on Social/Emotional skills and Literacy. Assist with the basic needs of children. Follow all center policies and guidelines. Work with children experiencing difficulty as assigned. Perform other duties assigned by the Lead Teacher or Center Director. Preferred Qualifications Coursework in Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, Human Service or related field preferred. Awareness of or desire to learn about the needs of children and families in our community. Desire to or prior experience working with diverse populations and young children preferred. Hours Per Week 5-10 Desired Outcomes Intern gains teaching expierence. Intern is well-connected to other staff in the field and has a more knowledgeable approach on classroom dynamics. Intern gains experience in curriculum based teaching. Intern gains experience on EEC regulations and operations of play centers. Intern gains experience with a teamwork approach to teaching.
