Grant programs provide financial aid funds that do not need to be repaid, provided the student remains eligible through the majority of the semester. Federal Grants The Pell Grant Program provides assistance to students with exceptional need and is the largest free-money program for college. Pell Grant eligibility depends upon the information provided by a student and their family on the FAFSA. If you’re eligible for a Federal Pell grant, the amount you’ll receive is based on enrollment status. Students must be enrolled for a minimum of 3 credit hours in an eligible program. The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a federally funded, campus-based grant for students with exceptional financial need. Unlike the Pell Grant, FSEOG awards depend on several factors, including: Your level of financial need The amount of other financial aid you receive The availability of FSEOG funds at Greenfield Community College Because FSEOG funds are limited, awards are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Applying for financial aid as early as possible increases your chance of being considered. Even if you are eligible, you may not receive an FSEOG award if funds for the academic year have already been exhausted. Massachusetts State Grants Massachusetts provides its residents in degree-seeking programs with funding through dozens of programs in the form of grants, scholarships and waivers. Details are available through the Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA). Student eligibility for these grants is determined by data collected on the federal FAFSA application. Both a FAFSA and the VSAC Grant application are required annually. Students should contact VSAC directly for more information or for application assistance.
