Students enrolled in a degree or certificate program are assigned to a faculty advisor based on their major. Many students are also assigned a success coach who helps students navigate GCC policies and systems, implement strategies and connect to campus resources that will contribute to academic success and overall well-being.

Students can request a new advisor at any point in MyGCC—the Advising Center will do our best to accommodate your request.

Faculty Advisors

Faculty advisors help you make the most of your college experience. They’ll guide you in planning classes, exploring academic, transfer and career options. Think of your advisor as an mentor and ally who their to provide academic guidance and support during your time at GCC.

Success Coaches

Your success coach works with you one-on-one to set goals, stay organized and find the resources you need to thrive. Taking a holistic approach, focused on academics, wellbeing and balance, they’ll help you stay motivated, build confidence and reach your goals.

Find Your Advisor

Students enrolled in a degree or certificate program are assigned to a faculty advisor based on their major. Many students are also assigned a success coach or academic advisor. Advisor assignments are typically completed during the first week of your first semester. Until then, all students are welcome in the Advising Center.

Non-matriculated students, meaning students who are not enrolled in a degree or certificate program but are taking GCC classes, are advised by Advising Center staff. Any advisor in the office can help!

  • Log in to MyGCC
  • Click “View Profile” or the profile icon
  • Your advisor and success coach will be listed on your profile; hover and right-click for their email address. If you’re having trouble or do not have an assigned advisor, email the Advising Center for help.
  • Most faculty advisors are not on contract during January and summer. During these periods, or any time you are having trouble getting in touch with your assigned advisor, all students are welcome in the Advising Center.
Change Your Advisor

Most students are able to change their advisor. If you want to make a change, complete a Change Advisor form in MyGCC.

This form gives you the option to request a specific advisor or to have the Advising Center choose someone for you. You don’t have to know who you want to work with in order to request a change.

When you change your major, your advisor will be updated to someone in your new program of study, whether or not you submit the Change Advisor form.
