The GCC Art Faculty Exhibit has opened in the South Gallery! We will be introducing ourselves and talking about the work on September 23rd at Noon. All are invited to join us. The gallery is open during all open school hours- come visit anytime. Artists include: Chenda Cope, Kelly Clare, Johanna Hoogendyk, Nick Meyer, Kelly Popoff, Joan O’Beirne and Jen Simms

For the past four weeks, 11 students from ART 247 (Painting: On Location and in the Studio) explored painting from outdoor locations and in the studio here at GCC. The class went to four locations, Shelburne Falls, Leverett, Greenfield and downtown Northampton, where we made studies, drawings and notations about the space and environment observed. These studies were then used as a reference to develop larger oil paintings in the studio. Without photographic references, we relied on our sketches, notations and visual memory to construct the images shown here.

Hope everyone is having a good summer. At GCC we are still painting away. These paintings are from ART 247 On Location and in the Studio. We make sketches at various places in the area and bring them back to the studio to use as references for paintings. This allows for more invention and utilizes memory.

This course is usually offered every other summer but we are having so much fun we might just do it again next summer.

Tonight is ArtsNight! We are almost ready…and so looking forward to seeing students, friends, family and the greater community come together to celebrate all the great work. Wall to wall paintings here at GCC… getting ready for the big opening this Thursday! The Art Student Exhibit features work from the past academic year. Please join us for the opening reception and to celebrate our INCREDIBLE students on Thursday, April 16th from 7-9 pm.

The paintings here are from ART 241 Painting 1. In addition to larger in class paintings, Kelly Popoff asks her painters to paint multiple small paintings weekly that are under 30 minutes to experiment, build skill and muscle memory. 💥
