These well‑preserved tracks were left by early Jurassic dinosaurs walking across the muddy floodplains of the Connecticut River Valley. As the animals moved through shallow water and soft sediment, their footprints were pressed into the mud and later buried by new layers of silt and sand. Over millions of years, the sediment hardened into rock, preserving these footprints as trace fossils that capture a moment of movement from dinosaurs that once roamed what is now Turners Falls.
