Greenfield Community College Downtown Center Operations to Move to Campus

January 25, 2022

Greenfield Community College is bringing its community closer together by merging the GCC Downtown Center with the main campus.

Starting in February, GCC will begin moving the remaining services and staff that are currently located in the Downtown Center to the main campus. Such an integration will help to make these programs and activities more convenient and accessible for both degree-seeking and non-degree student needs.

"We've learned a lot through the COVID-19 Pandemic at Greenfield Community College, and one of the most important lessons has been the importance of cohesion. Everyone is eager to rebuild a sense of community, especially on our beautiful campus," Richard Hopper, interim President of GCC, said.

"The pandemic required us to pivot to more remote offerings, thereby freeing up some classroom and office spaces. We are taking this opportunity to consolidate operations and bring our community closer together," he added.

The GCC Foundation recently voted to sell the privately-held Main Street building, an approximately 19,000 square-foot building with parking, three floors of classroom and office space, with Ted Hanna and Tim Grader from Cohn & Company. The proceeds from the sale will help the GCC Foundation generate revenue that will be invested and deployed to support scholarships, student life and strategic initiatives.

"Our decision to sell the Downtown Center comes from the fast-changing higher education landscape, with new demands for workforce development and training," GCC Foundation Executive Director Alexis Page said.

There will be full continuity of programs and services as the Community Engagement and Workforce Development programs are brought onto the GCC main campus. This will also give participants in such programs greater access to the range of services the College provides. These include financial services, academic advising, counseling and tutoring, along with easier access to the GCC Food Pantry and the library.

"Our goal with this move is to better serve our range of constituents by increasing the proximity to the broad set of services provided by GCC. This integration will facilitate the College's holistic approach to wrap-around support," Hopper said.
