Learn how tuition and fee refunds work, including deadlines, how to withdraw, and how financial aid may be affected.

How Refunds Work

Refund eligibility is based on the date you officially drop or withdraw from classes. Refunds are determined by:

  • The date your withdrawal or course drop is processed
  • Whether the course is standard or non-standard length
  • Whether the class was canceled by the College

If a class is canceled by GCC, you will receive a full refund.

Refunds are typically processed within 4–6 weeks after eligibility is confirmed.

If you drop or withdraw after the refund deadline, you will not receive a refund and will remain responsible for the charges.

Deadlines

Refund amounts vary depending on when you drop or withdraw. Deadlines are published on:

Non-standard or shortened courses follow different refund schedules.

The following fees are generally non-refundable:

  • $20 registration fee
  • $35 payment plan fee
Common Refund Scenarios

If you withdraw before the semester begins, tuition charges for dropped classes may be fully reduced. Registration and payment plan fees may still apply.

If you withdraw after the semester begins, refunds are determined by the published refund deadlines. After those deadlines pass, no refunds or reductions are issued.

If you drop one class and add another during the refund period, you may be charged full tuition for the newly added class.

Special Circumstances

If you are withdrawing due to medical circumstances, standard refund deadlines may not apply. In these cases, you must submit a refund appeal. Visit the appeals section for details and required documentation.

Refund policies for non-credit courses and workshops vary by program. Refer to your registration materials or contact the program office directly.

Financial Aid Refunds

If you receive federal or other financial aid, your aid eligibility may change when you withdraw or drop classes.

Financial aid is earned based on how long you attend classes. If you withdraw early, some aid may be considered unearned and must be returned to the funding source.

After you withdraw:

  • The College has up to 30 days to calculate any required return of financial aid
  • You will be notified if repayment is required
  • You must contact Student Financial Services within 45 days to arrange repayment

Receiving financial aid does not guarantee that you will receive a refund.

Please note!

  • Once a refund is approved, please allow approximately 4–6 weeks for processing. Timing may vary based on payment method and volume.
  • You must officially drop or withdraw from classes for refunds to be considered. Simply not attending classes does not cancel charges.
  • Always review refund deadlines before making enrollment changes.
  • If you are unsure how dropping classes may affect your financial aid, contact Student Financial Services before withdrawing.
