Zoom Pro Licenses

Zoom iconIn summer 2019, Greenfield Community College adopted Zoom; this is now the recommended and supported video conferencing tool at the college. In order to either start or join Zoom meetings, one must have the client installed on the PC, Macintosh, iOS, or Android device.

Type of Accounts

Zoom licenses are associated with email addresses. Users who have created Zoom accounts with their GCC email accounts should transfer those accounts to a different email address before using a license managed by GCC. GCC manages two types of Zoom accounts:

  • Basic accounts—can be used to host meetings up to 40 minutes long. If the meeting is hosted inside our installation o Moodle, it can be recorded to the cloud. If it is hosted outside of Moodle, the meeting can only be recorded as a file on the computer that is hosting the session.
  • Pro accounts—can be used to host longer meetings (up to 24 hours), all meetings can be recorded to the cloud, and meetings can be assigned for other Pro users to manage. GCC has a limited number of Pro licenses; the cost is $138 per year for a Pro license.

Sharing a Pro Account

If your department or group wants a Pro account for your exclusive use, then:

  1. Transfer $138 to GCC’s IT department to cover the cost of the one-year subscription (contact Laura Garcia for details).
  2. Identify the email address to which you want the Pro license assigned. (We can create an account for this purpose.)
  3. If the “owner” of the shared license wants it assigned to another, then that person should contact Gary Ackerman or Josh Gaestel at least one week in advance.

Please remember, if you use a Pro account, you can identify other Pro accounts that can start the meeting, but they must use the link in the invitation email to start it; it will not show up in their list of meetings anywhere else.

Pro Accounts for One-Time Events

If you need to host a Zoom meeting that is longer that 40 minutes (for example if you are hosting a guest speaker in a class, you can be assigned a Pro account that will be reassigned as soon as you are done. Please request a “hot potato Pro” account from Gary Ackerman or Josh Gaestel; make your request at least a week in advances so we can conform it is functional before your event.
