Request Accommodations

Welcome to Greenfield Community College, an affirmative action/equal opportunity institution!

GCC recognizes that each student is unique and some may need accommodations to fully participate in our programs and services.  Some examples of accommodations that an eligible student may receive are adaptive software (e.g. text-to-speech) and equipment; alternate format materials (e.g. electronic textbooks and large print); assistive listening devices/supports; accessible furniture; assistive note-taking devices/support; testing accommodations.

If you feel you may need accommodations due to physical disabilities, psychological disabilities, and/or learning disabilities, or because you are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, please inform us of your needs and establish your eligibility by completing the steps below.  Please be assured that contact with our office is confidential and is not included in your official college records.

Step 1:  Complete our Voluntary Statement of Learning Needs form

This form is available in your MyGCC account (under “Submit a Form”) or from our Forms webpage.  If completing our webpage form, we recommend that you use our secure link to upload your form to us; but, you may also drop it off in person, or send by email, fax, or mail to us in advance of your appointment.

The form and upload link can be found on the GCC website at www.gcc.mass.edu/ds/forms/.

The information you provide on this form will assist us in assessing what academic accommodations may be applicable for your disability or situation, and ensures information you want to disclose is not forgotten during the course of the conversation.

Step 2:  Submit your most recent documentation related to your disabilities

Having your documentation prior to the appointment allows the Disability Services staff time to review it and prepare for the meeting.  For information about documentation, please refer to our Guidelines for Documenting a Disability.  We recommend that you use the link on our webpage to upload your documentation to us; but, you may also drop it off in person, or send by email, fax, or mail to us in advance of your appointment.

If you don’t have access to supporting documentation, you may still be eligible for accommodations based on the information that you provide to us and our interactive interview and observations.  You can let us know your documentation availability on the Voluntary Statement of Learning Needs form.

All documentation received by Disability Services is confidential and is held in accordance with FERPA regulations.

Some examples of the types of documentation that support your request for accommodations are:

  • Educational and Psychological evaluations;
  • Individual Educational Plan (IEP) or 504 plan;
  • Letter or other documentation from your healthcare provider, which clearly states your diagnosis;
  • GCC’s Disability Verification Form on our Forms webpage.

Step 3:  Contact us to schedule a one-hour initial appointment

Call 413-775-1332 or Email

We encourage you to establish eligibility with Disability Services well before the semester begins to ensure your accommodation needs are met.  Certain accommodations such as sign language interpreters, captionists, or materials in braille, for example, can require significant lead time to put in place.

See How Does the Office of Disability Services Determine Accommodations for more information about the process.

Step 4:  If accommodations are approved, send your Accommodation Agreement to all of your instructors each semester.

You may either email your Accommodation Agreement to your instructors or give them a printed copy.  Our office is always happy to provide you with printed copies of your Accommodation Agreement.

Step 5:  Contact Disability Services if you have any questions or concerns about your accommodations.

Students do not need to register with Disability Services in order to access general college support services, such as peer tutoring, the writing and math assistance programs, the math studio, the social science studio, student workshops, and counseling.

For additional information or general questions, contact our office (call 413-775-1332 or email ).
