IT Internship Overview Credits: 3 (135 Hours of Work per Semester) Time Frame: 01/26/2025-05/13/2025 Internship opportunity working as part of the Information Technology team at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Information Technology team manages the IT needs of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Jail and House of Corrections, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Civil Process Division, the Franklin County Community Justice Support Center, and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Regional Dog Shelter. During this internship, you will learn about the practical applications of Computer Science and Information Technology in real-world scenarios. You will shadow members of the IT team and learn about the complications of establishing a convenient IT infrastructure for end users in a secure environment. You will also be tasked with coding/scripting projects to create systems used by staff on a day-to-day basis, modernizing workflows, and increasing efficiency. To work for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, 12 hours (1.5 days) of mandatory training are required, including CPR training. It is expected that those training hours will be completed before the start of the semester. This training will be conducted at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Intern Responsibilities 1. Answering and annotating IT helpdesk calls. 2. Using Google Apps Script and other programming languages and environments to create paperless systems and workflows. 3. Fixing minor hardware issues, such as Office Printers and Workstations. 4. Assisting IT staff with more complicated hardware issues, like servers. 5. Assisting with system cleanup and documenting processes. 6. Helping with cleaning server closets. 7. Shadowing IT staff in meetings or throughout the facility on their daily duties. 8. Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Information Technology. Preferred Qualifications 1. Experience using Windows devices. 2. Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy. 3. Experience using the Linux command terminal. 4. Experience with Windows Domain Controllers. 5. Experience with Network Switches and Access Points, specifically Ubiquiti hardware. 6. Experience with PDQ and Windows Sysprep, or other similar software solutions. 7. Experience with JavaScript and/or SQL. 8. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. 9. Strong communication skills. 10. Ability to work as part of a team. 11. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people. 12. Ability to operate in a structured environment. 13. Ability to follow instructions and procedures. 14. Willingness to learn new things and use tools that you might be unfamiliar with. 15. Willingness to work in a secure facility in areas that house incarcerated individuals. 16. Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. 17. Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with others; ability to establish and maintain rapport with persons from different ethnic, cultural, and/or economic backgrounds. 18. Ability to understand and follow the policies and procedures of the agency. 19. Ability to communicate and understand written and oral communication, and be fluent in the English language. 20. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts (or state of residency) Motor Vehicle License. Hours Per Week 10 Desired Outcomes Compensation $15/hour
