FAQs

Where is the Peer Tutoring Program?
We are located in GCC's main building, 4th Floor Core.  Our front desk is staffed 9-3:30 M-F

Who uses tutors?
Every GCC student is welcome! Tutoring is for students who have been out of school for a while and need to brush up, students who are struggling in a course and need ongoing support, and students who are doing well in a course and want to clarify a few points or simply discuss course content and/or assignments.

What courses?
Tutors are available for all English and math courses, as well as most other courses offered at the college. They can help with writing assignments, research, calculator and computer use, study skills, reading, and test preparation.

Who are the tutors?
Tutors are GCC students who have successfully completed the courses in which they tutor and have been recommended by a faculty member. Some tutors began tutoring while at GCC and have continued to tutor after transfer to a four-year institution.  Tutors receive ongoing training from tutor coordinators in effective tutoring skills.

What happens in a tutoring session?
Students come to tutoring sessions with their questions and course materials. Tutors help students work through material, class notes, texts, and assignments. Tutors are trained to listen, ask questions, provide feedback, and assist students in the learning process.

How much does it cost?
All peer tutoring is free!
