Research instruction & help

GCC Library CARES!

GCC Librarians are here to Create A Research Experience for Students in a variety of ways. Research help is provided for students both in-person and virtually. Whether you are taking on online class and can’t make it to campus or if you spend hours on a library couch – we want to help you succeed!

An introduction to the research process.

Small group instruction

Students and faculty may request instruction for a small group working with a particular topic, assignment, or resource.

To request small group instruction, contact Eric Poulin at or 775-1834.

Individual instruction

Students and faculty may request individual 30-minute appointments with a librarian to develop an effective search strategy for a particular research project or for in-depth instruction in using a particular Library resource.

To request an individual research consultation, contact Eric Poulin at or 775-1834.

Drop-in support, on or off-campus

Reference librarians are available to help at the main desk with research questions during all library hours. Librarians are also available by phone (at (413)775-1831), by text (text 413-376-7706), by email at, and by chat.

Research Guides

Librarians have created guides to help lead you through the research process for a variety of subjects and specific classes. They are available 24/7 and are a great resource during hours when the library is closed.

Course-based instruction

Faculty may request Librarian-led instruction sessions to introduce their students to Library resources and research strategies. Choose from a menu of topics, or schedule a meeting with a Librarian to develop a customized session for your class. For more information or to request help, please complete an instruction request form. Faculty can also request librarian support online, in their Blackboard or Moodle courses, as well as specialized research guides for a course or specific assignment. For more information, email
