Greenfield Gardens is a non-profit affordable housing complex with 202 units, we serve low and moderate income families. Each summer we run a Summer Youth Program that provides youth in Greenfield Gardens a chance to experience what it is like to have a job. This program is a combination of workshops to teach them basic job and life skills, and real world work experience. We are looking for an energetic positive outgoing Youth Coordinator for 6-8 weeks to help coordinate and supervise this program. This person ideally will be able to not only supervise youth but also be able to connect with them at their level, so that we can create a fun safe learning experience for everyone involved.

Intern responsibilities

*Mentor and engage youth in positive activities and team building exercises.
*Help prepare and lead basic workshops on various topics regarding life and job skills. Ex. How to read check stubs, preparing for an interview, peacefully dealing with conflict.
*Model appropriate work ethic, encourage good work habits.
*Supervise and transport up to 7 youth at a time in the clean up of various parks around Greenfield and in Greenfield Gardens.
*Ensure proper conflict resolution and teamwork.

Required intern qualifications

Enthusiastic, energetic, and the ability to relate and work with a diverse group of youth.
Valid License.
At least 1 year experience working with youth.
Ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects at a time.
Ability to go with the flow and stay positive.
Experience preparing and/or leading workshops designed for youth.

Desired outcomes of internship

Our youth benefit from having a safe alternative to spend the summer, having new experiences, and learning skills they may not have an opportunity to learn otherwise. The intern will gain firsthand experience and knowledge working with youth and the specific issues and challenges they face and have a great opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life. This position is also a great resume builder.
