Matriculated students (meaning students who are enrolled in a certificate or degree program) are assigned a faculty advisor in their program of study and most students are also assigned a Success Coach who is a professional staff member in the Advising Center.
Faculty advisee lists are posted in your MyGCC account.
If a student wishes to change their academic advisor, they can do so by completing a "Change of Advisor" form in MyGCC.
Non-matriculated students (meaning students who are not enrolled in a degree or certificate program but are taking GCC classes) are all advised by the Advising Center.
Dual enrollment students are high school students who concurrently enroll in GCC courses. Faculty have a responsibility to maintain an active, engaging, intellectually challenging and safe classroom environment. That responsibility is neither heightened nor diminished with the enrollment of a dual enrollment student. Neither the college, nor its faculty shall act in loco parentis. The inclusion of dual enrollment students in a class should not impact negatively either faculty's academic freedom or the college's academic standards. If a parent, legal guardian, or a high school/home school official asks for information from faculty or staff regarding any student, including one less than 16 years old, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) forbids disclosing information without the student's consent.
