Academic Advising

Academic Advising is a collaborative relationship crucial to student success. Academic resources for faculty advisors are available from the Academic Advising Center.

The Academic Advising Center (AAC) is located in the core of the main building (C118). Students may visit the office any time the office is open or attend virtual drop-in hours. Refer students to the Advising Center websiteadvising@gcc.mass.edu or (413) 775-1339 for support.

Faculty questions about advising issues or advisor assignments can be sent to advising@gcc.mass.edu.

Advising Notes are located in MyGCC and provides a common record of student interactions with college faculty and staff. A best practice is to complete an advising note after meeting with an advisee.

Advisor Notes may include information about:

  • prior school/college experience
  • transfer credits
  • prerequisite courses completed
  • career goals
  • other interests
  • explanation for course selections
  • financial aid concerns
  • graduation requirements

The records you keep in Advising Notes can be used at the end of each semester to document your advising work and complete your required student advisement log (E4).

Students do not see their Advising Notes unless requested. Assigned advisors are automatically copied on Advising Notes written by other faculty or staff for their advisees.
