New York Times

The Nahman-Watson Library has an institutional subscription to nytimes.com. This will give you full access to all of the New York Times online, the New York Times app, and the archives back to 1851. Their two education-specific tools, as well as the Spanish and Mandarin editions of the paper, are also available via our subscription.

This access is a little different from other library databases in that you will need to create an individual login.

  1. Go to https://login.ezgc.ez.cwmars.org:3843/login?url=https://ezmyaccount.nytimes.com/grouppass/redir
  2. If you are off campus, you will need to log in using your library credentials. If you are on campus, you will go directly to the site.
  3. Click the blue "Create Account" button and register using your GCC email address.
  4. Select your role. You will automatically be given 4 years of access (note that students will be asked to select their anticipated graduation year).
  5. After 4 years of access, you can renew your account (assuming we still subscribe).

Once registered, you can use the individual login to access nytimes.com in any web browser or to use the New York Times app.

What if you already subscribe to nytimes.com?
If you are subscribed using your GCC email address, you will first need to cancel your existing subscription. Note that GCC institutional access does not include Cooking or Games but you can add these to your GCC account (the cost is charged to you).

How can you use this with students?
Students register in much the same way as you will (the only difference is that they will be asked to select their anticipated graduation year as part of the process). We will be communicating access details to students soon. You can share articles and interactive content using just the URL found in your browser or app. Once students are logged in with their GCC-associated account, they will be able to view the full content. We will be creating instructional materials for faculty who plan to use this in their courses. More on that to come, and please let me know if you have a specific course need this semester.

What about your privacy?
While the library is facilitating access, we will not be able to see what you read, comment on,  which newsletters you subscribe to, or any other activity. We simply pay the cost for a group subscription. Your access is, however, subject to the New York Times Privacy Policy.
