College Closings & Delayed Openings ID: 533 All students are encouraged to sign up for the ALERT GCC system for timely updates regarding weather and other emergencies. The decision to cancel classes due to adverse weather conditions or other emergencies rests solely with the President of GCC or their designee. Please refer to the Inclement Weather Policy. When the college announces a delayed opening, please follow these guidelines for classes and clinical rotations: On-Campus Classes Partial Class Attendance: If a scheduled class is disrupted by the delay but its regular end time extends beyond the college opening time, you may be expected to attend the remaining portion of that class. Course Specifics: Check your course syllabus. Faculty members will provide explicit instructions for how delayed openings affect their specific classes Clinical/Lab Rotations Partial Clinical Attendance: If you have a clinical rotation, you will still be required to attend the remainder of your clinical day at the time the college opens. Who Decides: Clinical attendance policies are determined by your course coordinator and faculty. Communication: Your specific instructors will contact your student groups directly to confirm expectations for the day. Nursing classes and labs which normally begin their meeting after the delayed opening time will meet as scheduled. Students must notify their clinical instructor before the scheduled clinical assignment time if they must be absent. There will be mandatory make up hours or assignments (if appropriate) to preserve the integrity of course outcomes.
